Structure
Membership of Comhdháil is open to Co-operatives or Development Associations, or individuals who are representatives of their community, on any island off the coast of Ireland without a permanent road connection to the mainland, which can demonstrate to the satisfaction of Comhdháil’s Executive Committee that it has a permanent resident population.
Assosiate membership is open to off-shore islands without permanent resident populations but which are working towards re-establishing resident populations on the island.
Comhdháil’s affairs are managed by an Executive Committee, consisting of the Officers of the association and other elected island representatives.
Members of the Executive Committee are elected as follows:
A representative from each member island with a permanent population of at least 50; one representaive from any group of small islands with a combined permanent population of at least 50; one other representaive from the small islands not otherwise represented; one Island Women’s representative.
A representative from each of the following statutory organisations also sits on the Executive Committee:
FÁS, Údarás na Gaeltachta, the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and a representative from the County Development Boards.
